Artist Statement

A China-based artist and designer working across moving image, installation and computational production. The practice investigates how bodies are shaped by ritual, technical systems and collective memory. Material studies, constructed objects, sound, animation and image synthesis are combined, treating digital tools as instruments for rehearsal rather than substitutes for authorship. Recent work draws on masks, shadows, fibres, fire and staged movement to examine sacrifice, displacement and the unstable boundary between a body and the forces that organise it.
My practice begins with a material contradiction: a body that is present as structure yet absent as person. I build nonhuman shells, masks and projected shadows, then choreograph their relations through restrained camera movement, repeated rhythms and physical sound. Research into ritual performance informs the work without being reproduced as ethnographic spectacle. Instead, I translate weight, delay, concealment and collective action into contemporary moving-image installations. Digital generation is used alongside practical textures and compositing, with continuity rules that preserve friction, gravity and ambiguity.
Semiome is a China-based artistic and research collective working across moving image, installation, sound and computational media. Powered by the SemioGenesis engine, its practice examines how ritual, memory, technical systems and inherited cultural signs organise the contemporary body. Semiome treats digital production as a material process through which bodies, symbols and memories can be dismantled, rehearsed and formed again.
Work Statement
The Lost Roasted Lambkin is a 109.708-second, 21:9 single-channel moving-image work in which an empty shell enters a ritual of judgement. A mask awakens; hollow structures dance; their two-dimensional shadows seize the choreography. Fire becomes a threshold while blood crosses black water. The title names innocence offered to a system, not an animal depicted onscreen.
The Lost Roasted Lambkin stages Mind × Body as an irreversible exchange. In a ritual space without deities, a hollow body formed from fibre, mask and puppet movement is given to fire, while its shadow struggles to break free. Drawing on the relationship between mask, rhythm and bodily weight in Nuo culture, slow-shutter movement dissolves the figure into smoke, flame and afterimage. Blood becomes a passage between matter and consciousness; fire becomes the moment of judgement. Redemption begins when the shadow survives the body that once contained it.
The Lost Roasted Lambkin was presented in Mind × Body: Catalyst Phenomenon Archive, organised by the Reality Intelligence Association as part of London Design Festival 2026.
