Artist Statement

Artist portrait of Zun Wang

I am an independent artist exploring the relationship between humans, plants and digital technology. My practice focuses on how digital modelling and immersive media shape the ways we perceive and represent non-human life.

I work across visual research, digital modelling and immersive media. My current practice explores how plants are translated into digital data, images and models, and how this process shapes human understanding of non-human life.

Work Statement

Simulation Plant constructs a plant simulation factory through a real-time, multi-sensory VR experience combining sight, sound, and smell. The scene critically deconstructs and reconstructs the digital modelling process of nine representative species to examine how digital simulation strips plants of their subjectivity. Enlarged to human scale, the plants dissolve into floating data particles as visitors approach, accompanied by a low electronic hum and synchronised scent release.

Simulated Plant was presented in Mind × Body: Catalyst Phenomenon Archive, organised by the Reality Intelligence Association as part of London Design Festival 2026.
