Artist Statement

Artist portrait of Yuyang (Baron) Shen

Yuyang (Baron) Shen is a director and artist working across performance and moving image. With nearly five years of acting experience and three years in video and short-film production, he brings an embodied sensitivity to the camera. His practice explores gesture, rhythm, and emotional tension, transforming interior states into cinematic form. Moving fluidly between acting and filmmaking, Shen develops a visual language rooted in drama, atmosphere, and human experience.

Work Statement

Remnants is a psychological short film about Adam, a young man with amnesia who reconstructs reality through five physical traces: a notebook, receipt, campus card, folded note, and blue pen. Guided by a double within his mind, he learns to trust repetition over recollection; the objects become an external archive for a mind unable to hold its own story. As recovered fragments pass from thought into anxiety, confrontation, and violence, the film reveals mind and body as mutually catalytic forces. When memory fails, does the body become an instrument of truth—or its most dangerous distortion?

REMNANTS was presented in Mind × Body: Catalyst Phenomenon Archive, organised by the Reality Intelligence Association as part of London Design Festival 2026.
