Artist Statement
My name is Wang Siliang. I am an undergraduate student studying textile design.
My artistic interest lies within the many connections between our physical body and inner-most thoughts and emotions. I favour hands-on textile techniques including layered fabric construction, embroidery and surface print to materialise abstract feelings and bodily experiences.
I draw inspiration from common-place real-life troubles that affect people's comfort and self-perception. Through my practice, I aim to bring unseen physical discomfort and psychological pressure into view, and invite the public to consider how bodily conditions shape our state of mind.
Work Statement
Colourants: such as iron oxides, carbon black and chromium‑oxide‑green, are used to give mascara varied shades including black, brown and green.
Film‑forming agents: for instance beeswax, carnauba wax and ethylene‑acrylic‑acid copolymer, assist mascara in adhering to eyelashes and retaining their curled shape. Thickeners: including bentonite and silica, adjust the viscosity and flow property of mascara for smoother application.
Humectants: such as glycerol and panthenol (a vitamin‑B5 derivative), moisturise eyelashes and stop them from drying out and splitting.
Preservatives: for example phenoxyethanol and methylisothiazolinone, extend the shelf‑life of mascara and inhibit bacterial growth.
Brightening agents: like silk protein and keratin, boost eyelash lustre and cut down brittle breakages.
Solvents: including water and isohexadecane, dissolve the remaining ingredients and modify mascara’s texture and spreading feel.
