Love & Decay
Partner Programme
Artist Statement
I am a second-year Textile Design student at Winchester School of Art, specialising in weaving. My practice explores material, structure, colour and concept through experimental woven textiles. I am interested in translating music, emotion and cultural references into tactile forms. Through experimenting with yarns, weave structures and textile techniques, I aim to create textiles that communicate atmosphere, narrative and personal expression.
My practice begins with visual and material research, developing ideas through sampling, experimentation and iterative making. I explore how yarn properties, colour combinations and weave structures can transform initial concepts into material outcomes. Research from music, imagery and cultural references informs my visual language, while technical experimentation allows unexpected textures, surfaces and structures to emerge.
Work Statement
For this project, I began with the emotional atmosphere of Suede’s Dog Man Star, exploring desire, intimacy and decay through weaving. The process became a way of thinking through these emotions, with the interaction between material, structure and texture shaping the development of the work. Repeated weaving experiments gradually transformed these ideas from concepts into physical forms.
Love & Decay was presented in Mind × Body: Catalyst Phenomenon Archive, organised by the Reality Intelligence Association as part of London Design Festival 2026.
