Portrait of Ruiyi Jiang, Yi Shi

Ruiyi Jiang holds a Bachelor's degree in Digital Media Art from the Harbin Institute of Technology. As an interdisciplinary designer, her practice spans fields such as immersive interaction, artificial intelligence, spatial media, physical computing, and digital storytelling. She focuses on how technology shapes human perception, behavior, and cultural experiences, exploring novel interactive relationships between virtual and physical spaces through media including game engines, creative coding, sensors, and extended reality (XR). Her projects encompass areas such as interactive digital cultural heritage, VR storytelling, intelligent interactive systems, and wearable devices; she also maintains an ongoing interest in the potential integration of artificial intelligence, human-machine collaboration, cultural expression, and environmental issues within design.

Yi Shi holds a Master's degree in Architectural Design from University College London (UCL). As an interdisciplinary designer and educator, her work sits at the intersection of digital fabrication, artificial intelligence, spatial interaction and sustainable materials. Through creative coding and spatial media, she explores the expressive limits of technology and material, responding in her work to ecological sustainability and to the relationship between humans, machines and environment. She has published in journals including Nature npj, SIGraDi and BioResources. Her design work received a Bronze Award at the 2021 UCL B-Pro Show and a Gold Award for Human Settlement Environment in 2023, and has been exhibited at Asia Design Week, New York Design Week and London Design Week.

Work Statement

This project introduces a wearable flexible device specifically designed for the rehabilitation of ankle sprains and other joint injuries. By integrating temperature sensing, electromyography (EMG), and motion tracking capabilities, the system monitors recovery progress, assesses functional status, and predicts when users can safely resume daily activities and sports across four major joints of the body. Additionally, the device features a user-friendly design allowing patients to customize its appearance.

Intelligent Injury Recovery was presented in Mind × Body: Catalyst Phenomenon Archive, organised by the Reality Intelligence Association as part of London Design Festival 2026.
