Portrait of Rita Tang

Rita Tang is a visual communication designer who graduated from Kean University, a Sino-American collaborative university, and is currently applying for graduate programs in interaction design and interdisciplinary design.

Her practice focuses on historical memory, marginalized communities, and controversial social issues. Through design, she explores the human experiences hidden behind socially constructed identities and dominant narratives.

She believes that many labels created by society often conceal complex personal histories, survival strategies, and structural conditions. By combining visual storytelling, spatial experiences, and interactive media, she transforms overlooked narratives into immersive experiences that encourage audiences to reconsider the relationship between individuals and social systems.

Work Statement

This project transforms forgotten historical narratives into an immersive spatial experience, allowing players to explore how women's identities were shaped, used, and eventually marginalized by social systems. Through historical research on Taipei military entertainment systems, I reconstructed fragmented memories into an interactive first-person experience. The project explores how individuals become shaped by social structures and how they are forgotten when those structures disappear.

Forgotten Rooms was presented in Mind × Body: Catalyst Phenomenon Archive, organised by the Reality Intelligence Association as part of London Design Festival 2026.
