Artist Statement

Yue (Yola) Wu is an award-winning product and interaction designer whose work spans enterprise technology, AI-enabled experiences, and speculative, future-facing interfaces. Her professional practice focuses on complex and evolving systems, while her independent work explores how emerging technologies reshape perception, agency, and everyday behavior. Her work has been recognized by the Red Dot Design Award, Core77 Design Awards, and other international design programs. Moving between commercial product practice and experimental inquiry, she brings a technology-grounded perspective to questions of how people may interact with increasingly intelligent and spatial systems.
Wu's practice explores how people make sense of increasingly complex and intelligent systems. Across product design and independent experimentation, she is interested in the relationship between human intention, technological capability, and the forms of interaction that emerge between them. Her work moves between practical systems and speculative propositions, using design both to make complexity understandable and to question how technology may reshape human behavior, agency, and expectations. Rather than treating emerging technologies as fixed tools, she approaches them as evolving systems whose meaning is continually shaped through interaction with people.
Work Statement
BODYWISE explores an interaction paradigm in which information adapts to the body, rather than requiring the body to learn commands. Through three speculative interactions—leaning in, shielding, and brushing away—the work translates familiar embodied behaviors into changes in informational depth, access, and continuity. Designed for AI-enabled augmented-reality glasses, BODYWISE is presented through a series of seven digital images and a short interaction film. The work is screen-based and requires no physical installation; images and video can be displayed digitally or reproduced as prints.
BODYWISE was presented in Mind × Body: Catalyst Phenomenon Archive, organised by the Reality Intelligence Association as part of London Design Festival 2026.
