Reality Intelligence Association (RIA) is a UK-registered not-for-profit learned society working at the intersection of emerging computing technologies, architectural materials, and design research. Based between Oxford and London, RIA brings together researchers and practitioners from design, engineering, architecture, and the humanities to examine how technology, material, and embodied experience shape one another within real, inhabited space.
As artificial intelligence, spatial computing, and mixed reality increasingly transform how we perceive and construct the world around us, RIA takes “reality intelligence” as its central concern: the study of how intelligent systems, physical materials, and human experience converge in real environments. The Association exists to open up this territory as a shared field of inquiry, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration across domains that too often develop in isolation.
RIA pursues this mission through a range of activities carried out with academic rigour and an experimental spirit: exhibitions that present new work and research, competitions and awards that recognise exploratory design practice, public lectures and workshops that connect scholarship with wider audiences, and Perspectives, an editorial platform for field notes, provocations, interviews, and project writing. Together, these programmes form a platform for knowledge production, public discussion, and the long-term development of the field.
Rooted in scholarly tradition yet international in outlook, RIA seeks to gather research and creative energy from across the world, advancing a deeper and more considered understanding of intelligence in the reality we build and inhabit.
